Suturing
The process of suturing can mean the difference between a short and relatively painless healing period and failure of the procedure.
Starting with a brief lecture, participants will learn the rationale for suturing and will explore the do’s and don’ts of the technique. Following this, participants will have a chance to apply their knowledge and skills on pig jaws, using a variety of different suture materials and techniques to cover a multitude of clinical situations.
Learning Outcomes:
- Explain the physiology behind how suturing positively influences post-operative healing
- Recognize the different suture materials and techniques
- Apply their theoretical knowledge of suturing to actual clinical situations commonly encountered in practice
Crown Lengthening
Your patient desperately needs a crown on #1.6, but very little sound tooth structure remains. The patient asks if there’s any way to save the tooth. If only you could find a way to gain an extra two millimeters of exposed tooth structure, you know you could make the patient’s wishes come true. Do you have what it takes in your clinical toolbox to manage this situation?
In the first half of the course, participants will be exposed to contemporary functional crown lengthening via osseous resective surgical techniques. With fresh pig jaws as our “patients”, participants will learn the A to Z of crown lengthening, from incisions and flap design, through to osseous resection, and finally closing up using different suturing techniques. Whether you incorporate surgery daily in your practice or refer everything out, this course will take your knowledge and skills to the next level.
Learning Outcomes:
- Identify the indications and contraindications for crown lengthening
- Apply the knowledge and skills necessary to perform a simple crown lengthening surgery
- Recognize appropriate post-operative management for crown lengthening, as well as the expected outcomes following the procedure
