Please note that this course includes a live patient component where participants will be required to perform intraoral procedures. As such, all attendees must hold a valid Ontario dental license to participate.
This 3-day immersive course provides dentists with fundamental training in the essential techniques and knowledge required for successful wisdom teeth extractions. Through a combination of lectures, hands-on practical exercises, and a live patient component, participants will gain the confidence and skills to manage a variety of wisdom tooth extractions.
The course covers everything from preoperative assessments and patient management to postoperative care, including pain control, local anesthesia techniques, and the recognizing when to refer to a specialist. Additionally, the course includes a special focus on training dental assistants to work with you, ensuring optimal support and efficiency during procedures. By the end of this course, participants will be equipped to handle routine extractions and manage common complications effectively.
Learning Outcomes:
- Conduct thorough preoperative assessments, including patient medical history and imaging, to determine case complexity and suitability for in-office extraction.
- Recognize the signs of complex cases and understand when to refer patients to a specialist.
- Recognize appropriate pain control methods and local anesthesia techniques to ensure patient comfort during the extraction process.
- Perform step-by-step extraction procedures for different types of wisdom teeth, with a focus on minimizing trauma and improving patient outcomes.
- Identify and manage common intraoperative and postoperative complications (excessive bleeding, root fracture, nerve injury, infection, dry socket etc.)
- Provide clear postoperative care instructions to patients to promote healing and reduce complications.
